And there are definitely moments that are able to match it, but all the other moments of the film unfortunately fall for the same problems as the first film in the trilogy. The good news that overall the movie is still enjoyable, and the final race is fantastic. The movie is worth it just for animation is also the highest quality out of the trilogy, so a lot of it is very fun to watch. The water specifically in this movie is gorgeous, and they utilize the beauty of it to… This movie finishes off at around the same place as the second season of the anime. The big difference here is that it felt like too much was missing from the original story and the final race lacked any real tension or excitement. Overall the "New Initial D" trilogy is worth watching for the new animation and cliff notes version of the first few seasons of the TV show so that you can watch the last couple seasons and finish off the show. But if you have the time read the manga or just watch the series. THE CAR TALK FELT LIKE IT WAS TURNED JAMMED INTO OVERDRIVE, AND THE MAIN GUY WAS STILL CONFUSED... BUT IN THE END HIS LOVE WAS LIKE A CAR... Had probably the best production of the trilogy but arguable the weakest story.
